OVERVIEW
The core of these classes is working through relaxation, sensory exploration and emotional truth from the principals of the Lee Strasberg Technique – the technique is one that grounds the actor, placing them within their body and creating a state conducive to accessing the senses and emotions, which are vital to authentic and vibrant work.
The teacher for this class trained at the famed Strasberg Institute in New York and has a wealth of experience in practising and training this technique.
PROGRAM CONTENT
The Strasberg Technique proposes that it is a waste of an actor’s creative energy to bring anything other than their own emotional life and history into their work. Artists in every field utilise and build from their imaginative and emotional worlds in the act of creation – and acting is no different.
The Lee Strasberg Technique is a practical approach to accessing creative potential through relaxation and sensory exercises.
These classes are vibrant and creative platforms from which to explore your rich inner life and utilise personal experience in the production of art. Classes provide skills for the actor to achieve self-guided preparation, allowing for surprising and effective choices in characterisation. It draws upon emotional authenticity through sense memory, which offers a platform for the actor to connect with their character through shared emotional and sensory experience.
Sensory work is a way for the actor to define his or her own work and allows them to be the author of their character, by providing the emotional life needed to bring characters to vivid life. Actors may wish to apply for the Strasberg/Batson Scene Study class to apply these principles to scene work upon completion of the course.
ALLOCATED CLASSES
We take great care to ensure all actors are working in a challenging environment. All new applicants to the studio meet with the Creative Director before being allocated the appropriate class.
