OVERVIEW

16th Street is delighted to offer a course devised and developed by the esteemed Lindy Davies, former Dean of the School of Drama at the VCA, and one of the best acting teachers in Australia. This course offers a rare opportunity to work with a true master acting teacher, acclaimed by some of the greatest actors working today, including Academy Award winners Cate Blanchett and Julie Christie.

This course invites actors to reconnect with their voice and to language and to continue in the ancient tradition of telling stories vocally and verbally. It empowers actors to search for their own vital and authentic voice.

The course is a 3-day intensive workshop led by both Lindy Davies and her collaborator, Rob Meldrum.

PROGRAM CONTENT

Language is losing its power. As we become less eloquent, we diminish words yet it is our primary means of expression and communication. Through it we shape and transform worlds, both real and imaginary. We must therefore empower ourselves through the mastery of language to realise our full creative potentials.

Voice and Text begins with an intensive all-day workshop, led by Lindy and focuses on the voice and its connection to text. The techniques of master teachers Cicely Berry and Kristin Linklater, along with various other techniques, will be explored to inhabit language, challenge the imagination and provoke action.

This is a rare opportunity to benefit from two esteemed teachers working in tandem. Rob is an actor, director and teacher with over 30 years’ experience having lectured in the School of Drama at the VCA for 9 years and has been a collaborator and colleague of Lindy’s for many years.

ALLOCATED CLASSES

We take great care to ensure all actors are working in a challenging environment. To accommodate levels of professional experience and training, all new applicants to the studio meet with the Creative Director before being allocated the appropriate class.
