OVERVIEW
Tony Knight is one of Australia’s most accomplished and respected acting teachers and is the long-standing Head of Acting at NIDA.
This weekend workshop is a truly unique opportunity for actors to enhance their craft with Tony, with a particular focus on scene work and Shakespeare.
COURSE CONTENT
The first day of the workshop will focus on uncovering scenes through analysis and exploration. Actors will engage with material on a very detailed level, learn how to break down a scene and use improvisation to highlight character and meaning in a text.
The second day will focus on Shakespeare – a challenge for many actors. From script analysis to language and structure, Tony will work from historical perspectives of Shakespeare to lead actors to a place where they can tackle texts with deep appreciation and understanding.
Actors will work on prepared sonnets and soliloquies.
While Shakespeare can be daunting for even the most experienced of artists, the richness of Shakespeare’s plays provides an unparalleled platform for actors to hone their skills.
Actors will:
•enrich their textual analysis
• engage with material that is multi-layered
• develop a greater command of language
• explore genres and how they inform one’s approach to text
• develop rich and varied characters
• make bold choices in their scenes/monologues
• create detail and specificity in their work
Actors are constantly called upon to audition with classical scenes or Shakespearean soliloquies. This workshop will allow you to learn form one of the most experienced teachers in the business.
