DREAMWORK MASTERCLASS

WITH AMANDA LOVEJOY STREET

“What Amanda facilitates is true soul medicine. She possesses a vast creaturely intelligence that operates from a place of compassion, tenderness, and curiosity. It’s hard to put words to the experience of Creative Dream Work because it’s so all-encompassing. It’s alchemy. It’s play. It’s self-discovery. This work thrills and challenges me. It enlivens me. It’s potent and alive; it stays with me.”
Stephanie Adams-Santos (Two Sentence Horror Stories – Netflix, Dream of Xibalba – winner Orison Prize in Poetry)

Dream Work is a wildly practical and experimental practice that allows us to bridge the gap between the unconscious and conscious self, develop intuition, find freedom from habitual beliefs and patterns, connect to creativity, and uncover new depths of self that are longing to be heard.

This work invites and trains the body-mind to enter an open, dropped-in, sturdy and fiercely creative state that can be accessed anywhere, whether it be on a chaotic set, in a rehearsal room, at a writing desk, or in an art studio. We realize this by loosening our bodies, restoring our central nervous systems, allowing ourselves to breath, expanding our voices, exploring our senses and allowing feelings to arise, all while working with the deep imagination and the unconscious.

By working with the unconscious, we avail ourselves to the lesser known and unlived parts of ourselves. It is the act of courageously meeting these parts with compassion and curiosity and inviting them into consciousness that allows us to expand our capacity to be with and reveal more of ourselves through our creative work. When creative material comes through or comes our way (as a role, project etc.), we might ask the question - why am I being asked to work with this material at this specific time in my life? What is this material asking me to look at in myself? By exploring these questions, we have the opportunity to make our creative work deeply personal. I believe that this is what we are responding to when we are struck by a work of art - the revelation of the artist's soul.

MASTERCLASS BREAKDOWN

  • In this 4 day intensive we will practice the tools of the work so that you can bring them into your own personal creative practice. Participants will choose a role or creative project and ask for a dream and work with what follows .

We will begin our days cultivating a soft and open nervous system and a sturdy and flexible container. This will allow us to feel our authentic feelings and to follow our own images and impulses, dissolving the need to please/obey the other or the culture/industry.  We do this by opening the body, voice and breath and working symbolically to untangle and soften narratives that are no longer serving us. From here we will work privately on the mat exploring our dreams and creative material in our bodies and with our senses. There will be time to bring what came through with art supplies and journaling. We will spend our afternoons with group work. It is a rare and incredible opportunity to explore this work as a group and to help each other illuminate our dreams and creative expression. This workshop will set the groundwork so participants can begin to cultivate a dream work practice.

This intensive is for participants who can wholeheartedly commit to the entire workshop. Dream Work experience is not as necessary as a commitment and willingness to fully explore.

AMANDA LOVEJOY STREET

Amanda Lovejoy Street is a creative facilitator working internationally with artists, actors, writers, directors, musicians and anyone who seeks to deepen a relationship between their creativity and their unconscious. She has been working with her dreams since she was a teenager. She was first introduced to the relationship between creativity and dreams in 2004 through her extensive studies with Sandra Seacat which led her to Kim Gillingham in 2009. She began an in-depth apprenticeship with Kim in 2013 becoming a founding member of Creative Dream Work, both developing and influencing the practices with Kim. She facilitated with Creative Dream Work from 2017-2023 before starting her own international practice. Most recently, Amanda taught at the Victoria CG Jung Institute, and became a consultant for the non-profit The First Ten. She was an advisor for the 2021 and 2022 New Zealand filmmaker's lab, Story Camp, and holds a certificate in Contemplative Care with the NY Zen Center.  Some projects she has coached on include Netflix’s Stranger Things, Apple TV’s Slow Horses, HBO’s The Staircase, Empire, Amazon’s Goliath, Netflix's The Boys, Hulu's Reprisal, The Rabbit, Hole, Hilma, Earthquake Bird, Behind the Movement and Wild Goose Dreams (Public Theatre). Amanda proudly and humbly comes from the lineage of Sandra Seacat, Marion Woodman (by way of Kim) and Kim Gillingham (Creative Dream Work).

A note from Kim Gillingham:

"The opportunity to work with our dreams within a creative community is a rare good fortune.  When news of such an event crosses your path - Leap to explore it!

I first met Amanda in class with Sandra Seacat - our mutual teacher.  Amanda and I share a deep love for Sandra and her work- with both of us having the great good fortune to study with her.  Later, Amanda came to Creative Dreamwork classes and it is there I came to know her creative depth and love for this work.  As the work grew, Amanda apprenticed with me and grew to teach alongside me at Creative Dreamwork. She was a founding member of CDW and helped influence and develop the practices. She is now teaching on her own and is a valued colleague. Amanda holds a steady, supportive container in which the artist can release old narratives and explore new terrain. She is playful and intuitive with a deep devotion that guides her. I admire the way that Amanda is growing the work forward as she continues her own explorations of learning and brings her fresh new findings back to the work. She holds the work with respect, humility and care.  This is a rare and wonderful opportunity to experience dream work for artists with a practiced and devoted teacher."
