A Portrait of Acting with Colin Friels

“You should always go into the artistic arena expecting absolutely nothing and giving absolutely everything you have. It’s the only way you can be assured of being at your best, and the only way you can be assured that you won’t be disappointed. Expect nothing. You will have rewards – I swear to this – Be surprised by your riches. They’re sweeter that way” – Sir John Gielgud

In this scene study workshop actors will be working with one of Australia’s greatest actors, the multi award winning Colin Friels. Colin has made a significant contribution to the Australian theatre, film and television industries. We are delighted to welcome him to 16th Street.

Actors will work on scenes from great contemporary classics. They will be allocated a scene and a scene partner before the workshop begins. This workshop is an investigation into some of the most significant writing of our time. Together with Colin, the actors will explore some of the greatest modern characters ever written, who have given us a window into the human psyche and unfulfilled human desire.

“This workshop is a must for all actors. Colin embodies a lifelong education in acting. He considers himself a craftsman of the discipline. And like most great craftsmen he has a profound understanding of what it takes to be a master of your craft. I’ve had the privilege to direct him both in film and on the stage and every time it’s been an education. I can’t thank him enough for teaching me.” Alkinos Tsilimidos – Renowned Australian Director and member of 16th Street faculty

This workshop is for experienced actors or actors who are at an advanced level in their training.

Entry is by selection. Places are limited.
