About Penny Templeton

Penny Templeton is an acting coach, director and author – her artistry is the culmination of four generations of theatre actors and early in her acting journey she trained under legendary artists such as Paul Sorvino and Wynn Handman. In her years as an actress, she starred in Joyce Carol Oates’ I Stand Before You Naked at the American Palace Theatre, and in Robert Penn Warren’s All The King’s Men opposite her mentor Paul Sorvino.

Penny Templeton began teaching in the early 1990’s and opened the doors to The Penny Templeton Studio in 1994, whilst also teaching “Acting for the Camera” to MFA students at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. In 2011 she published her celebrated book Acting Lions  which has been described within the industry as “the actor’s bible” and “a complete course in the art, study and business of becoming an actor”. Penny’s entire career as an acting coach and teacher has been about developing a practical approach to the craft of acting that is grounded in the teachings of great masters – and her actors are always ready to act.

She has served as a panelist for The New York Film Festival and Emmy Awards, and worked as a director on multiple Off-Broadway productions including The Rise of Dorothy Hale, F Train and Idiot’s Guide to Life.

16th Street Actors Studio are delighted to welcome Penny Templeton to Australia in 2020.
