“The Groundlings Theatre in LA had a massive impact on me. It’s hard. They don’t pull any punches. They tell you what you’re doing isn’t working and why it’s not. But I think you take all your punches and you learn not to be so precious about it. So when you finally get the opportunity to get a job and work, you just keep trying things. If somebody doesn’t like it, it’s great, throw it away and try something else. It makes you open up and be more pliable. I think that’s a big part of why so many from there have had success, they’re game.” – Melissa McCarthy, Groundlings Alumni

The foremost comedy training ground in LA is, and always has been, The Groundlings.
As one of the leading Improv Theatres and Schools in the US, The Groundlings have been the springboard for countless careers for over 40 years, producing many much loved comedy actors and performers including; Will Ferrell, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Lisa Kudrow, Jon Lovitz, Ben Falcone, Kathy Griffin, Will Forte, Mindy Sterling, Phil Hartman, Rachael Harris, Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and Paul Reubens.
We are thrilled to offer Australian actors the opportunity to work with one of Groundlings main company members, LA-based Australian actor Michael Churven, this November.
In this Workshop actors will develop the powerful skills of writing comedy, creating and performing comedic characters and working on improvised scenes.
The good news? There’s no preparation required. You will be taught the skills required to create your own comedic material. Got a character you’ve been working on? Seize the opportunity to learn the Groundlings way of developing a character, be it in performance or in your writing.
Join us and learn how to take your ideas from your head, to the floor, to the page.
Introduction to the Groundlings
“I was so afraid and awestruck at what the actors were doing that I didn’t utter a word. And even in this moment of abject fear and total failure, I found it to be thrilling to be on the Groundlings stage. I then knew I wanted to be a comedic actor.” – Will Ferrell, Groundlings Alumni
