SIX-WEEK POST-GRADUATE PROGRAM

The Screen Actors Way is for actors moving from substantial theatre experience into screen, and for working actors who are already auditioning and self-taping but want to deepen the skills that turn opportunities into bookable work.

Screen acting is not about quick tips or surface-level tricks. It requires rigorous, textured, and deeply practical technique designed to make on-screen storytelling as creatively rich, demanding, and rewarding as the actor's work on stage.

Over six weeks, you will refine your screen technique, deepen your audition practice, and master the subtle shifts required for camera clarity and connection. The program equips you with the precise tools and creative confidence needed to turn screen opportunities into booked roles.

Translate, don’t shrink: Adapt a full-bodied stage practice to the intimacy and technical realities of the lens without losing impulse, imagination or scale.

Turn preparation into freedom: Build a repeatable process for breaking down screen material quickly, making bold choices and remaining available to adjustment.

Make auditions part of your craft: Treat self-taping and screen tests as meaningful creative encounters - rigorous, alive and connected to the work you want to do.

FOCUS POINTS:

  • The lens: Master frame, eyeline, stillness, and scale by working on camera from day one, using immediate playback to see how subtle shifts in performance translate to the screen.

    The scene: Unpack story, relationships, and playable behaviour by preparing scenes, taping in person, taking direction and re-taping to test fresh choices in real time.

    The body: Use Michael Chekhov tools to unlock physical freedom and imaginative range while remaining grounded and effective within the technical bounds of the frame.

    Australian material: Work directly with local film and TV scripts to master the grounded naturalism, subtle nuance, and specific dialogue rhythms required by Australian screenwriting.

    The audition: Practice the complete self-tape process, from quick prep and distinct choices to technical setup, reviewing playback, and applying redirects under pressure.

    The working actor: Develop collaborative habits, professional agility, and resilience in every exercise, building a grounded, repeatable process for a long term screen career.

    Steppenwolf-trained actor and teacher. Julia supports spontaneity, resilience and an abundant creative practice for a freelance life.

    Award-winning director of West of Sunshine. Jason brings a visceral understanding of performance, authenticity and the actor as an artist.

  • NADIA TASS

    Screen Leader Award recipient and director of Malcolm, The Big Steal and Amy. Nadia focuses the actor on specificity, embodiment and story.

  • SANCIA ROBINSON

    NIDA-trained actor, producer and casting specialist. Sancia builds a dependable self-tape practice grounded in preparation, choice and emotional flow.

  • DANIELLE CARTER

    Psychophysical tools for screen: imagination, atmosphere, psychological gesture and the creation of a specific, embodied inner life that remains alive within the frame.

  • EVE MOREY

    NIDA graduate with 18 years across stage and screen. Eve brings deep actor-support experience to contemporary Australian material.

The Screen Actors Way is ideal for graduates of an acting program and for working actors looking to further develop their craft and work on screen. Spaces are limited for this unique specialist program and standards for the ensemble are high.

  • Selection will be based on knowledge of an actor’s work or a professional CV and showreel. Actors may be invited to an interview/meet and greet with the studio’s associate artistic director.

    We recommend interested actors submit an application at their earliest convenience.
