ACTING ESSENTIALS

MODULE 3 CHARACTER

Alongside our screen-focused Module 3, we are excited to offer a second stream for actors drawn to transformation, physicality and the craft of character.

This program introduces a rigorous, embodied approach to character creation - one that begins in the body and works outward into behaviour, psychology and text. Where much actor training asks who is this character?, this stream asks: how does this character live, move, and act in the world?

"The environment 16th street has cultivated is unmatched to any other institution I have trained at in Australia. I’ve been able to push my creative limits in such a supportive environment…there really isn’t any other place like it.”

COURSE BREAKDOWN

    • Harry Haynes – Character Analysis (Yat Malmgren)
Exploring the inner attitudes as physical centres in the body, and how objective generates character behaviour. Actors will develop a repeatable, embodied process for transformation. Culminating in Original Character Creation.

    • Rob Maxwell – The Lucid Body Technique
Connecting emotional life to the body through physical expression, unlocking range, impulse, and the actor’s capacity for truthful transformation.

    • Fabio Motta – Mask Work
Working with mask to heighten physical storytelling, precision, and play. Actors will explore archetype, rhythm, and the demands of fully externalised character.

    • A clear, physical approach to building character from the ground up

    • Greater range in energy, tempo, and expression

    • The ability to transform beyond naturalistic self

    • The capacity to generate and sustain original characters
