KAREN ANDERSON

Alexander Technique

“As a professional artist and physical theatre improvisation teacher, and theatre director, the profoundly affecting techniques & methodologies of the Alexander work have been an ongoing part of my practises for more than 25 years! I started doing Alexander sessions with Karen Anderson 2 years ago and have discovered a whole new, delightfully eloquent, layer to this work! Karen is insightful, professional, sensitive, humour-full, affirming and articulate in ways that, for me, provide an ongoing framework for greater clarity of understanding of my own body in space.”

— Danielle Cresp - Award-winning Director, Mentor, Performing Coach, Action Theater™Australia Practitioner & Improvisation Artist.

BACKGROUND

Born and raised in Ireland, Karen draws on years of movement experience in martial arts, yoga, and performing to her teaching, bringing awareness, respect, wit, and a playful energy. Before arriving in Australia, Karen was a professional circus artist, teacher, co-founder & director of the award-winning Dublin based PaperDolls aerial performance company. She trained aerial, acrobatics, clowning, hand-balancing and contortion throughout Europe.

Practicing the Alexander Technique opens students to choice, autonomy and freedom and it provides actors with a practical method for embodiment and presence to deliver captivating performances.

PHILOSOPHY

As an Alexander Technique Teacher, Karen maintains respect, warmth and a playful energy, refined by many years in the community and arts industry working with and supporting artists and communities. She also draws on years of movement experience in martial arts, yoga, and performing and always brings her Irish wit.

For Karen, working with students in gaining freedom from old patterns and with artists in realising their brilliance is a constant source of inspiration and joy. To her, the Alexander Technique is a quiet and profound life changer.
