WHO WE ARE
Dedicated to the artist. Favoured by the industry.
16th Street has changed the landscape of acting training in Australia by introducing actors to the world’s leading industry professionals and techniques.
Since 2009, we have been committed to artists development and aspirations throughout their professional lives.
Our mission is to guide actors to develop self-compassion, empathy, artistry and craft. We believe that an actor’s artistic growth is inseparable from their development as a human being. Shaping their training around a range of world-renowned acting techniques, recognising the uniqueness of each, whilst valuing how they complement each other.
We believe craft developed through integrated skills-based training builds a bridge between an actor’s talent and their humanity. And that well trained actors lay the foundation for their own success and artistic fulfillment.
FACULTY
The experienced faculty at 16th Street has been extensively trained in these techniques or have worked directly with the masters to develop their teaching practice. 16th Street continues to be widely recognised across Australia and abroad as a training ground for industry-ready actors. FROM OUR FOUNDER

“I am so proud to be the Patron of the exemplary 16th Street Actors Studio in Melbourne, Australia. I have had the great honour of knowing Artistic Director Kim Krejus for many years. Kim has created a studio from her boundless passion for the craft of acting and the support of actors in training. Actors who have spent time with Kim and at the studio will always be better artists for the experience”
-
PATSY RODENBERG
“Enter 16th Street Actors Studio, and you will feel it is a place of shared decency, hope and compassion. Let me repeat this is rare and a beacon in Australia and the world to the proper role and practice of Theatre."
-
COLIN FIRTH
“Kim Krejus and I trained together at the Drama Centre in London. We were fortunate to train with Christopher Fettes and Yat Malmgren. Our acting teacher was Doreen Cannon, who had worked with Uta Hagen. When Kim graduated from the Drama Centre, she went to NY to study with Uta Hagen at the HB Studio. It is of real benefit to Australian actors that this work has been incorporated into the training at 16th Street.”
-
JACOB COLLINS-LEVY
“Kim Krejus has developed the ideal training ground for actors. 16th Street Actors Studio is a place where one can both sharpen their artistry and skill, while always being reminded to stay curious about humanity and the world around them. Here actors will learn the importance of specificity in performance and character, and that one absolute all great acting aspires to: the truth.”

IAN RICKSON
“Kim Krejus is quite simply one of the most inspiring people I have ever met in the world of the Arts. Her studio, 16th St, is a beacon of light, attracting a wide range of gifted teachers, actors and artists. At the centre of all this is Kim, the reason why we all come. She combines a love of humanity with a big-hearted spiritual belief in the power of the arts. She trains a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds and she gives of herself with an egolessness that is so generous”

ZOE TERAKAS
“Working with Iain Sinclair (Head of Acting) has been the closest I have ever come to real magic. He has the ability to conjure things within you that you didn’t know existed. His dedication to storytelling and his ability to generate electricity between you, your scene partner, and the audience is unmatchable. 16th Street actors are in the presence of greatness, with Iain at the helm. Do whatever you can to be in their Full-Time Program, he is a true master of his craft.”
-
ZOË STEINER
“If you’re seeing this because you’re interested in 16th Street and thinking about auditioning as an actor I would not hesitate. Truly above all because of Iain Sinclair. If you can work with him, you have to work with him. It’s really it’s a gift. His insight into story is insane and his ability to empower actors, to empower me, made all the difference. He has an incredible insight into what makes actors able to make inspired choices on them and commit to raw and truthful storytelling. Kim Krejus, she will work hard but Kim’s artistic integrity is truly second to none and she has such a love and respect for the craft of acting that will really lead such an expensive program.”
-
CASSANDRA MAGRATH
“Iain Sinclair is a truly gifted artist fluent in multiple psychological strategies that swiftly wake up an actor to the possibilities of their own talent. Iain imparts seemingly endless human knowledge in the spirit of generosity in such an egoless way that I’ve never seen before except in Larry Moss. I trust him explicitly.”
-
KESTIE MORASSI
“Kim Krejus and all of the teachers at 16th Street, empower their students to be their own unique, self-sufficient and dynamic instruments. Constantly searching for truth in the work is always of primary importance, and is reiterated in every moment during classes.”

LOLA BERRY
“I have loved every single second of my training at 16th street actors studio. I’ve learnt so much, I loved the passion, dedication and nurturing quality of each and every teacher. I cannot wait to continue my studies at 16th street with all the wonderful workshops and master classes. Kim, you’ve created an incredible space for artists to grow and I will never forget my experience in director of acting’s Iain Sinclair class, it was the moment I absolutely fell in love with the craft of acting, it feels like this creative electricity that’s so much bigger than one person. It’s an honour to be a 16th street student.”
-
JOEL NANKERVIS
“I’m a Full-time, Extension Program and American Way graduate. I’ve just come off a feature film and everything I learnt here I used in that film and I couldn’t have got there without it. It gave me the skills to be able to get an agent, to be able to book auditions and it’s really got me to where I am. I’ve met the most beautiful people; actors, teachers, mentors, friends, everyone at the studio has been so beautiful to work with and I’ve really met people and I really couldn’t do without them. It’s just set me up for a life full of love. I love the craft. I love everything I’ve learnt and I just feel so supported in this community.

THALIA DUDEK
“Getting the opportunity to work alongside incredible practitioners such as Iain Sinclair, Sancia Robinson, and Harry Haynes has shaped me profoundly as an artist. Their practice is infused with a depth of knowledge that is utterly inspiring and their passion is contagious. Most importantly, they possess the rare ability to care for both the story and the actor at the same time, ensuring ego is left at the door while play and discovery is invited in.”

NADIA TASS
“Arguably, there is no institution for training actors in Australia that is better than the work that is done here at 16th Street. Actors who have been trained under the careful scrutiny of Kim Krejus are the actors I will work with. Wherever I am directing film or theatre, I seek out graduates of 16th Street because I know they will deliver. Each actor who enlists in 16th Street for training is exposed to one of the most distinguished acting experiences possible on a world scale. This is what makes 16th Street Actors Studio the most vital and indispensable place for actors to achieve their best.”
-
DR. ROBERT MARCHAND
“I was one of the guest lecturers at the 16th Street Studio for ten years and a great many truly extraordinary acting students attended the workshops I ran. Not only did they have talent, in their time at the school they were steeped in positive values and professional practices that stressed integrity and humanity. The entire philosophy of the studio, led by its founder Kim Krejus, exuded respect and compassion for others, over and above great teaching by many respected drama practitioners.”
-
DARCY YUILLE
“I have been blessed to have worked with Kim Krejus and 16th St Acting Studio in a variety of roles. 16th St provides an excellent educational experience in the art and craft of performance. There is no other school like it in the state, and when asked I always say it is the best for the hard work and commitment the school has to excellence. The students emerge with serious skills and technique which is barely touched on in most organisations. The workshops that I have paid for and participated in through 16th St have brought talent from across the world that would never reach our shores.”
-
KRISTINE LANDON-SMITH
“16th Street Actors Studio is an invaluable training school for young artists. I have taught at the school on a number of occasions and have been struck by it's unique atmosphere. Student's individual talents are nurtured whilst at the same time receiving rigorous training from a range of practitioners. The opportunities and links to industry that Sixteenth Street provides is exemplary and it means that students develop their networks and work ethic whilst at the school and therefore hit the ground running on graduation. There is no other place like 16th Street and Melbourne would be a poorer place without it.”
-
ALYCE PLATT
“I have had the great pleasure of being a participant in many of the wonderful masterclasses, workshops and also special events put on by 16th Street in the magical space created by Kim Krejus in Caulfield. For many, this is a place we call home for our creative souls.”
-
TOTTIE GOLDSMITH
“I won my first professional job when I was 19 years old and have studied in numerous places with many different teachers, but it wasn’t until Kim Krejus offered a school where I was exposed to the world’s best, did my work move to the next level. Not only have I had access to teaches that have changed the way I see this wonderful craft but to be in an environment that offers such love, support and passion allowed me to feel safe enough to fully immerse myself in it and find the courage to commit to acting as a full time career with no plan B. 16th Street has been a blessing not only to Melbourne but to Australia.“
-
ANTHONY BRANDON WONG
“I taught 16th Street Actors Studio’s very first class when it opened more than 10 years ago, and through the years, have taught for and trained as an actor myself at this exceptional world-class acting studio. It plays a profoundly significant role in the artistic and creative development of so many performing artists in our industry, but perhaps even more importantly in fostering values of compassion, community, respect for differences and diversity, and love of humanity and the arts to all those fortunate enough to partake of its outstanding masterclasses, courses and workshops with some of the most acclaimed teachers alive today on the planet.”
-
DARCY KENT
“I studied at 16th street from 2012-2014, full time, with a group of other young hopefuls that wished to make acting and storytelling their vocation. 16th street is not JUST an acting school, even though it may just seem like one on the outside. It is helping to cultivate a new generation of individuals that care about their community and the world at large. It has changed the lives of countless people I know, and has become a vital creative hub for thousands of actors around Australia, which is impressive considering it’s really only been around for a decade.”
-
COURTNEY ALLY MILLER
“16th Street is a dream school for both emerging and experienced actors. I joined the full-time program hoping to sharpen my skills and I left with so much more: renewed confidence, a deeper passion for life, and a community like no other. I refer all my students there. I wish I could re-live it again and again.”
